Hilton Head Plantation is one of the Island’s largest residential neighborhoods - with nearly 4,000 acres sheltered between Port Royal Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway. Developed by the Sea Pines Company in the early 70s, the model home concept was a large part of its early development while Sea Pines up to that point offered custom homes. Located on the north end of Hilton Head Island, Hilton Head Plantation is the second largest Plantation with over 3,900 acres. A total of 3,810 homes can be built and about 150 vacant lots remain. In addition, there are 464 villas/condominiums within the Plantation. It was created in the early 70s by Sea Pines and planned as a primary home community. With four golf courses, two are private members only and the other two allow public play. Oyster Reed Golf Club and The County Club of Hilton Head are open to the public. Dolphin Head Golf Club and Bear Creek Golf Club are private. Property owners in Hilton Head Plantation also have access to the Spring Lake Racquet Club with 12 Har-Tru courts, the Plantation House , a new community pool with lazy river, fishing dock and community center. Additionally, Skull Creek Marina resides within the gates and is a full service boating facility with deep water slips, fuel dock, pump out station, complete marina store, and a large dry dock area. Many of the condominiums overlook the intracoastal waterway known as Skull Creek. The Old Fort Pub Restaurant near the back gate is well known and liked. There are two security gates that are manned 24/7 and just outside the back gate are several restaurants.
